Saying what we do at Nacro is simple. We house, we educate, we support, and we speak out for - and with - disadvantaged young people and adults. But it’s how we do it that really makes the difference.
By challenging boundaries, setting agendas, and delivering innovative solutions, we successfully promote social justice and give everyone we deal with the best chance of a second chance. And because it affects their lives, we aim to achieve the highest standards in everything we do.
This role provides resettlement and disclosure information, advocacy and advice to people you contact our helpline. You'll be helping serving prisoners, ex-offenders, family and friends of prisoners and ex-offenders and practitioners involved in the criminal justice system.
Who are we looking for?
You will understand and be able to apply the principles of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and related legislation. Working collaboratively alongside a wide range of other agencies as required in order to resolve queries/cases. This includes maintaining professional relationships and appropriate confidentiality of information. You will need to keep up to date with general developments within the disclosure and resettlement field, to ensure enquiries are answered as fully as possible and that referrals are appropriate.
You will be a skilled communicator, passionate about advocacy for those who have been been involved in our criminal justice system and a real team player who is focused on positive outcomes.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Resolve enquiries on our national helpline, efficiently and effectively, by telephone, email and letter to ensure resettlement advice, guidance and support is provided to those accessing the service.
- Search the Internet, databases, directories and other resources for information to send to enquirers.
- Support individuals with advice where they have been treated unfairly or experienced discrimination and offer low level advocacy on that person’s behalf, to challenge unfair decisions, where possible.
- Accurately record all enquiries on to our monitoring database system (CRM) to evidence interventions, impact and outcomes.
- Support people with criminal records to draft disclosure statements, providing advice and feedback about how to present this information to employers and education providers.
