ResponsibilitiesWe are currently seeking a Controls Engineer to become part of our team. This role is critical to ensuring that automation and data collection processes, that utilise Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) and Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, are designed, installed, commissioned and maintained to meet the existing and future needs of the business. The role operates on a day shift.
Your main responsibilities will include;
- Creating Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) code to control industrial machinery.
- Establishing and maintaining Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
- Improving machine PLC controls and processes to increase equipment effectiveness.
- Working on equipment PLC data networks and improve process data capture.
- Implementing control system upgrade projects and improve control panel design.
- Creating project plans to support machine control refurbishment, equipment installation, improvement, and cost reduction projects.
- Identifying, specifying, sourcing, and purchasing machines and equipment.
- Supervising sub-contractors, ensuring project implementation to time and cost whilst complying with all Company and H&S requirements.
- Identifying and implementing cost reduction and method improvement opportunities.
- Purchasing parts and equipment for improvement works, collating receipts and raising purchase requisitions.
- Providing technical expertise, including data analysis, planning and execution to improve equipment availability and asset utilisation for the site.
- Identifying and implementing improvements to improve the reliability of equipment, reducing reoccurring faults, downtime and scrap.
- Assisting maintenance in undertaking technical fault finding on equipment.
- Creating and maintaining technical files for new and existing equipment.
This role will be based at Exeter full time, reporting to the Plant Engineering Manager
QualificationsEssential
- Served an indentured technician/craft apprenticeship or degree qualified or qualified by experience
- At least 3 years working in a maintenance/engineering department or similar role
- Experience of PLC and SCADA systems
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Aware of Microsoft Project
- Good communication skills both written and verbal
- Awareness of Health & Safety
Desirable
- ONC qualification or higher in an electrical/controls engineering discipline,
- Experience with Allen Bradley PLC’s and drives and Wonderware or Ingnition SCADA systems
- Enthusiastic, proactive and capable of making decisions and working in a self-directed capacity
- Flexible and open attitude to change
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
