Role: 1:1 Teaching Assistant

Location: Plymouth

Contract: Full time

Working hours: Monday-Friday, 08:30 - 15:20 (term time only)

Salary: £14.45 - £15.20 per hour

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a 1:1 teaching assistant to make a genuine impact by supporting pupils who face challenges in thriving within mainstream education or special schools.

About the school:

The school serves as a teaching base for pupils aged 11 - 16 who have been excluded from school or are at risk of exclusion. Students follow a secondary-style curriculum with a strong focus on the core subjects, complemented by alternative learning opportunities. These include hands-on experiences such as learning outside the classroom and vocational, work-based training programs.

About the role:

As a 1:1 teaching assistant, you’ll play a vital role in supporting students on a one-to-one basis, helping them access education and participate in a variety of activities both inside and outside of the classroom. The role is diverse, engaging, and highly rewarding.

• You will support the students with both their academic studies and social, emotional development
• You will help the students engage in their personalised timetables, which will involve taking them offsite to engage in an outreach program. This could include visits to a local farm, sports centre or museum
• Promote the safeguarding of all children, ensuring they feel safe and well supported 
• Manage behaviour effectively and meet students needs in line with their EHCP’s

About you:

We welcome applications from individuals with relevant experience. You could be an experienced teaching assistant or worked as a support worker for individuals with additional needs. You may be a talented sports coach with an abundance of enthusiasm for supporting young people. Whatever your background, the non-negotiable is that you have a real passion for working with young people with additional needs!

• Able to engage children in their learning 
• Incredibly adaptable and flexible - things can change very quickly!
• Build strong, positive relationships with children, staff and parents/carers
• You must have a full UK driving licence and access to your own car as you will be transporting students for off-site activities
