The Greendale Group is looking to appoint an Accounts Assistant to join our team based in Exeter. The Greendale Group is a successful family company which boasts a diverse range of businesses including the Greendale Business Park, Greendale Farm Shop, a large working farm, a fishing business (Waterdance Limited), Exmouth Marina, as well as a number of other investments in both commercial and residential property across the South West. With rapid growth and an expected turnover in 2024 of circa £70m, it is an exciting time to join such a diverse business.

The Assistant Accountant will work closely with the Financial Controller, providing essential support in managing the day-to-day financial operations of the business. The role will cover accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations and financial record-keeping, ensuring that all transactions are processed accurately and in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities

Process purchase invoices, oversee the approvals process and generate supplier payments.
Raise sales invoices, ensuring these are processed accurately and timely.
Proactively manage debt collection and ensure customer records are kept up to date.
Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other control accounts as required, ensuring all transactions are recorded correctly.
Maintain accurate financial records within NetSuite and assist in preparing reports.
Support the Financial Controller with month end tasks, including processing of journals and undertaking variance analysis as required.
Assist with balance sheet reconciliations, including prepayments, accruals, deferred income and stock.
Work with the finance team to streamline transaction processing and improve data accuracy.
Provide administrative support and assist in audits by preparing required documentation.
Perform ad hoc transactional finance tasks as required.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

Previous experience in a transactional finance role (accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, or bookkeeping).
Strong numeracy skills and high attention to detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
Previous experience with NetSuite or other accounting software.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for liaising with suppliers, customers, internal teams and other external stakeholders as required.
Ability to manage high volumes of transactions and meet deadlines.
Professional and proactive approach to work and a good team player.

Preferred

Working towards an accountancy qualification or recently qualified (AAT, ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or QBE).
Prior experience in a similar finance role, with knowledge of financial and accounting principles.
