The Role: Sheet Metalworker & Fabricator
As a Sheet Metalworker & Fabricator at Robolights, your role will involve reading and interpreting engineering drawings and the fabrication of a broad range of precision sheet metal enclosures, tubular steel frames and facia panels to a high quality. You will be central to the upkeep of our high standards of fabrication, carefully using all your skills to produce quality, compliant products.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Fabrication
- Folding and fabrication of sheet metal enclosures and tubular frameworks
- MIG & TIG welding to a high standard
- Use of various hand power tools for sanding and finishing processes
- Processing laser cut sheet steel, including deburring, countersinking holes and the fitting of studs and threaded inserts.
2. Quality Control & Testing
- Conduct thorough inspection of fabricated products to ensure they have been manufactured accurately and comply with all quality standards.
- Identify and resolve technical issues or defects.
3. Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with a small, highly skilled production team to meet project deadlines.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues to ensure smooth workflow and timely completion of projects.
4. Process Adherence & Continuous Improvement
- Follow in-house manufacturing processes, quality control procedures, and safety protocols to maintain a high standard of work.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of production processes and systems.
5. General Maintenance & Housekeeping
- Keep the workshop and production area clean, organized, and safe.
- Ensure that all tools and equipment are properly maintained and available for use.
Daily Duties:
- Processing laser cut sheet steel, including deburring, countersinking holes and the fitting of studs and threaded inserts.
- Operation of our press brake to fold sheet steel.
- High quality MIG & TIG welding of enclosures and tubular steel frameworks.
- Working with mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium & brass sheet, rod and bar and engineering plastics.
- Use of workshop machinery including tapping machines, shears, milling machines, lathes, presses and pilar drills.
- Use of various hand power tools for sanding and finishing processes
- Participate in team meetings to review project progress and troubleshoot issues.
Qualifications and Skills:
Essential:
- Experienced in general fabrication, with a track record of producing a wide range of sheet metal and other fabricated items.
- Ability to weld to a high standard using MIG & TIG.
- A willingness to work as part of a wider team and develop your full potential
- Ability to follow technical drawings and documentation accurately
- Good communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Excellent hands-on practical skills and attention to detail.
Desirable:
- Full, clean UK driving licence.
- Experience or understanding of the technical aspects of the entertainment industry.
- Formal qualifications in a related trade or occupation.

Working Hours:
- Full-time, 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with a 1-hour lunch break).
