Use your Security skills in varied, exciting work that really matters
As a Border Force Officer, you’ll join a law enforcement team that makes a difference and changes lives. We don’t just check passports and monitor goods – it’s much more than that. You’ll be disrupting organised crime, keeping communities safe by safeguarding children and adults and taking guns and drugs off the street.
NB – this is a part-time only role
This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives using your Security skills and an exciting challenge where no day is the same. We’ll help you shape an exciting career and provide great benefits including:
- A 39.48% additional shift allowance (our borders open 24/7) of £5,827 making the total part-time salary £20,589
- A generous pension with an employer salary contribution of 28.97%
- Outstanding training to develop your confidence and specialist knowledge
- A huge range of additional benefits and reward schemes to help you and your family
Your role
Our Officers find out why passengers are coming to the UK, decide if they are eligible to do so and stop those who are not. You will develop your skills through in-depth law enforcement training, helping to tackle high-profile areas such as counter-terrorism, organised crime, modern slavery and human trafficking.
What your work will involve
- Operating immigration and customs controls to check passenger permissions and documentation
- Identifying and searching people, goods, and vehicles to establish if a customs offence has been committed
- Identifying vulnerable adults and children to prioritise their safety and refer them to appropriate agencies
- Interviewing passengers, undertaking investigations and determining whether they qualify for entry to the UK
- Arresting offenders, preserving evidence, managing detention and liaising with other law enforcement partners
- If involved in International Trade, you will be responsible for the movement and clearance of imported and exported goods and taking action if any irregularities are identified
- What you can bring
Due to the work we do and where we do it, our teams sometimes operate in difficult and dynamic environments, where you’ll need to manage a variety of situations and solve problems
- Are you ethical, professional, able to remain calm and act with integrity?
- Do you enjoy working with people and embrace the opportunity to be a role model? You’ll need to communicate clearly with empathy and provide creative solutions when needed
- Are you curious and like seeking out the truth? You’ll be investigating evidence, considering decisions carefully and ensuring the right choice is made
Training and Development
We’ll support you with full training including
- Initial 5 to 8 weeks of full-time ‘classroom’ training including Public and Personal Safety Training
- ‘On the job’ training with a mentor supporting you until you are fully confident. Even then you are never alone: your team are always around for advice and support
NB - You will need to complete a health declaration and/or medical examination as a level of fitness is necessary to pass the training
