Annette & Co. is a Chartered Accounting firm established in 2009. We specialise in supporting UK service-based businesses with annual revenues under £3 million.

Our mission is to help small business owners take home more money through strategic bookkeeping, accounting, and financial coaching.

We are a fully remote team, currently serving around 200 active clients with services ranging from bookkeeping and accounts to tax and financial coaching.

Role Overview

We are looking for a qualified bookkeeper to join our growing team in a remote, employed role. This position is ideal for someone experienced in managing multiple bookkeeping clients or working in an accounting firm handling a client portfolio.

You’ll work independently but with the support of a team committed to delivering exceptional results for our clients. The role involves managing bookkeeping to trial balance level, preparing VAT returns, and assisting with essential financial tasks for our clients.

Key Responsibilities

Your tasks will include but are not limited to:

Entering sales and purchase invoices

Weekly/monthly client bookkeeping tasks

Tracking accounts payable and receivable

Journal entries, bank reconciliations, and PayPal/Stripe reconciliations

Preparing and uploading files for Xero/QuickBooks

VAT return preparation and submission via Xero/QuickBooks

Ensuring the profit and loss accounts and balance sheets are accurate

Conducting basic analysis of monthly accounting reports

Communicating with HMRC on behalf of clients

Registering clients online for VAT or PAYE

Completing internal weekly and monthly checklists

You must be comfortable working with incomplete records and able to complete books to trial balance level.

Requirements/Experience:

Previous experience managing multiple bookkeeping clients or working in a bookkeeping/accounting firm with a client portfolio is essential.

Qualifications:

Part or fully qualified bookkeeper (UK-trained), certified by a recognized accounting or bookkeeping body (proof required), or

Qualified by experience, with 5+ years in bookkeeping roles.

Software Knowledge:

Proficient in Xero and QuickBooks.

Skills:

Strong communication skills (written and spoken English)

Excellent attention to detail

Self-motivated and reliable

Resourceful and proactive problem-solver

Team player with a desire to learn about small businesses (under £3m turnover)

How the Role Works

You will manage your allocated client portfolio.

Flexible working hours, with weekly calls during standard working hours with Annette (daily during your first week).

Fully remote work, giving you the freedom to work from home.

Interview Process

We believe in building a strong, capable team, and our hiring process reflects this commitment to quality. Here’s what you can expect:

1. Initial Interview (30 minutes): A Google Meet video call with Annette to discuss your experience, skills, and suitability for the role.

2. DISC Profiling: You will complete a DISC personality assessment to help us understand your work style and how you’ll fit within our team.

3. Second Interview: A more in-depth Google Meet interview to dive deeper into your skills, experience, and goals.

4. Paid Test Assignment: You’ll be assigned a test client project, which should take 3-4 hours to complete. This ensures you are comfortable with our systems and standards of work. This will be fully paid.

5. Background Check: Successful candidates will undergo a Disclosure Scotland / Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

6. Job Offer & Contract Signing: If selected, you will receive an offer via email and you’ll be sent an employment contract for e-signing.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary: £13,500 per annum for 20 hours a week up to £27,000 per annual for 40 hours pw

28 days paid annual leave (pro rata), plus your birthday off

Fully paid 3-month probation period

Flexible working hours with the potential for full-time
